Silence Before the Storm is a solo/studio project from Matthew "Axl" Brammer, in Albany County, Wyoming, USA. Begun in August of 2019, the project is a blend of melodeath, metalcore, deathcore, groove metal, and modern heavy metal.
"The Dead Are Here To Stay", the debut single, was released in August 2019. The three-song EP Empires was released in October 2019, to a positive reception from new fans and reviewers alike. Another, longer EP titled The Sufferer, was released on November 8th, 2019 and garnered the project significant attention.
The Alone In Flames EP, SBtS's most popular material to date, was released on January 10, 2020. The EP was noticeably darker and heavier, with more deathcore and melodeath influences than early material. A full length album, Misery, was released on March 27, 2020, and focused more on groove metal and light melodic death metal influences than previous material...along with slightly more technical riffing and a wider variety of styles from song to song.
A new album, War Machine, was released on October 30th, 2020, and continued the general melodeath-influenced groove metal that the project had become known for. It was followed up, however, by an experimental 3-song EP titled The Depths of Dreams in November 2020. The EP featured more clean singing, acoustic guitars, and pianos than any other SBtS material.
After nearly 3 months of writing and recording, Silence Before the Storm released two singles on January 29th, 2021 and announced a forthcoming album, The Only Way Out Is Through, would be released on February 12, 2021. The album was recorded in Laramie, Wyoming at Brammer's home studio, but was produced, mixed, and mastered by Johnny Dove at Voice of the Soul Studios in Downers Grove, IL.
Brammer is also the force behind melodic death metal outfit Agony By Default, as well as rock band Ashes of Denial and instrumental project Amity Road. In 2019, death metal project Catervatim announced Brammer as the new vocalist and writer for that band as well.
